Are Journals in Education Widely Consulted?
An Exploratory Survey

This research explores whether academic journals in education are regularly reviewed by teachers and researchers and which journals are most consulted or what are the reasons why journals do not receive attention.

This report was originally published in December 2015 in the predecessor internet forum of this magazine.

Good report, it is interesting to know the indices of consultation to journals in education, also the enlisting of journals; it would also be to know how to expand the proportion of readers of these journals.

Very interesting the study. It gives us the idea of knowing the status of consultation of journals in the areas of knowledge. Similarly, it presents us with a proposal for a proposal to elucidate who, as researchers or other stakeholders, decide to update their knowledge.

Very interesting the information and review of available journals, although the bias towards the journals in Spanish is worrying, because that responds to the limit with which the teachers access the information.

Very good night to all, if the report was well presented, in reality the university professors are more linked to the branch of the research and therefore seek information in "reliable" means as they affirm their research, and good in my humble experience as a teacher, it can informal that we have to review all the educational levels and to go adapting a position towards the development of new ideas that are being investigated, experiencing and trying to engage all educational levels as it is a "mess" where the solution is, only that our idiocy makes us unable to achieve the goals we want.

Dear colleagues, in my midst these journals are only consulted by those who engage in problems related to the teaching of the sciences, particularly in the early years of (for example) engineering careers.
However, when the topics developed are new or how to transmit (methods) really difficult concepts for non-specialist, there are teachers who use these journals. --- Marta Rosen is an Individual of the National Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences (ANCEFN), Argentina.

Today, teachers must be at the forefront of all technological and educational advances, so in my opinion, the journals are collated as they expose the most recent news in these areas.

Good comment [Jesus Hermoso]. But it is that there are people, among them some colleagues, who believe that all that had to be learned was given to us in the university. And there they stay, repeating the class notes. --- Jairo Mojica is a member of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.

Curiosity comes from birth and is powered by formation; both factors elevate man to creative actions and sensitivity of infinite reaches. I consider that a child should be induced to read from the mother's womb and in her early years nurture it, along with the teaching of values and respect for others. Therefore, the government of our countries must invest fundamentally in childhood and childhood, in order to enable them today to train suitable teachers and equip them with school infrastructure. On the contrary, today it is reflected as a common denominator that these young people go to university more by obligation than by inspiration; currently, the internetized information is at the hand of everything and for all and at the rate of potential increase, however the absenteeism in classrooms of students regularly enrolled in universities goes in a frighteningly contrary rate. It is clearly reflected in these young people that HAVING AT HAND ALL THE INFORMATION (APPARENT) THAT THEY REQUIRE DO NOT VALUE THIS, CONSEQUENTLY THE BIBLIOGRAPHIC RESEARCH IS NOT POSSIBLE (FIRST EXPLORATORY AND SYNTHESIS STEP)

NOT exactly, as every magazine is for specialists.

The survey conducted as outlined in the report cannot be considered as valid for the country's population of teachers. However, we could consider that the participants in this forum are people who are interested in science and their teaching-learning, and also mostly, they are from the level of university education, the results reflect that the journals dedicated to education are really little consulted, something that should make us reflect.

This can be seen as an indicator of little research, or that journals are not a source of consultation for the permanent update that all teachers have to do to practice the profession, under the assumption that teachers are kept up to date.

It seems a nonsense that at the university level where research should be permanent (not just to promote and obtain academic degrees), the results show that there is little review of journals. We can expect an outcome from teachers working in middle education, where the research action is being promoted massively, but within the same traditional working and administrative conditions (excessive number of hours-class, many different courses and students, lack of time and encouragement for updating and research, among others).

On the other hand, since we have access to the Internet, the review of journals, that is, the updating of the topics of interest, is becoming more and more feasible and easy, with which the results seem to show that there is little culture in this respect. The predominant reason for this fact (I do not know how to find information), could be explained by the lack of knowledge in the use of the web (repositories, databases, others) for this task, since the lack of equipment and connectivity has been reduced with the diversity of computer centers of the State and even more with the delivery of equipment and the WiFi connectivity in the educational centers. We would expect these results in a short time to change. There are several national journals on Education, in which we find interesting and high quality articles, however, the results give an account of little national consultation. Without belittling the review of international sources, Actualizar must be a permanent and autonomous task, it is independent and not exclusive of participation in academic programs for obtaining degrees. The latter are necessary for administrative promotions, but they are not sufficient to keep up to date.

Research is a different process from the consultation of journals on a topic, this is necessary to investigate, but it is also necessary to innovate in our didactic processes. We need to turn the teaching career into all educational levels into a true profession. So years to the work to improve education.

Translation:

Cordial greetings, to all those who are linked to this interesting initiative.

Research is a laudable work oriented to the recreation, generation and transformation of reality, which requires critical positions of its own, discipline, dedication, paradigmatic openness and commitment to the socio-educational environment. In addition, an instrumental dimension must be assumed, which consists in reading, reflecting, producing, disseminating, but above all assuming an existential-transcendental dimension (why are we here?). That is, it is to return to philosophy. The idea is to generate new knowledge; to promote society; to improve the quality of life of individuals. In other words, knowledge and research action as a way to promote the changes that society requires to maintain sustainable and sustainable development, as well as to guarantee its communicability.
In this context, the research carried out in the research journals is a textualized document of great interest to those engaged in the production, generation and dissemination of paradigmatic positions, since it is a reworked construction of a social reality, which consists, definitely, in learning " to dialogue with the text and to become aware that it is written for the others. But unfortunately the research journals are not consulted by the teachers, and this is a situation that must be improved from the policies of the Ministry of People's Power for Education. He expressed the following reason that the EDUCATION Magazine edited by the Ministry of Education, which was very consulted by teachers, is currently no longer within the reach of the academic-social actors (the public). On the other hand, the research journals of the Experimental Pedagogical University are only consulted by the teachers who are doing a doctorate or who are simply participating for a promotion or for another type of research, since it is a requirement demanded by the universities. Why not do this also in Primary Education, so that teachers are truly considered researchers. Because of what you have raised, I leave, within your reach, some ideas that should be considered in the moments in the act of writing from a cognitive perspective (awareness, regulation, reflection -metacognition): Initial reflections (What do I want to communicate? For what to write?) Planning (How do I organize my ideas?) Planting the goal of writing (for which I write) Production of ideas (about the chosen theme, which I am concerned to write, what material I should consult) Organization of ideas (planning, type of text, how to write. Textualization (writing, coherence, morphosintactic aspects, spelling, presentation, style = aesthetic).Produce the scheduled write (text) Review (tuning = recursive, nonlinear, regulatory). Review the relevance, coherence, cohesiveness and appropriateness of the writing for your correction (see for whom I write). Reworking of the text. Congratulations to all of you, let us hope for better times for which you are contributing a further step to that.

Dear friends: There is an EDUCATION Magazine edited by the Ministry of Education, which was very consulted by teachers. I do not currently know if it is coming out regularly, but it would be necessary to consult it again as it was before. In addition, at the Experimental University Liberator, some others are published, which are consulted by teachers, especially those who are assigned to the UPEL. However, some of the same as the CPI are in the process of becoming On Line Views, because there are no resources for paper or ink. So, dear friends, that is what I can tell you, but undoubtedly they are too lacking for our teachers to be aware of the world's advances in educational matters. I wish I could give you more information, but even the Venezuelan newspapers that had some page dedicated to the educational question are either diminished or closed down, so you have to wait for better times and you are doing that work. I congratulate you. Delia Beretta of Villarroel

Dear, Thank you for sharing the information. I am concerned about indicators focused on national journals with little international relevance. In this sense, I consider that there is a need to promote scientific growth in education science, through the consultation of international sources of greater impact, and that this supports the export of quality Venezuelan scientific knowledge.

Good job, and glad to receive it.
