Bhikhu Parekh is a Labour Member of the House of Lords in Great Britain and an Emeritus Professor of Political Theory at the University of Hull. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and a former President of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK). He is the author of several books, including Rethinking Multiculturalism: Cultural Diversity and Political Theory.

How do different cultures come to coexist within a single state? Can this coexistence itself be called multiculturalism, or does multiculturalism imply something more?
