The Meaning of Human Work
Work is not Only Financial Remuneration
Antonio Argandoña

Antonio Argandoña is Professor Emeritus of Economics and Business Ethics at the IESE Business School, University of Navarra, and a full member of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences. He the author of La empresa, una comunidad de personas: cultura empresarial para un tiempo nuevo.

Work occupies a central place in our lives. The daily experience of work, even work that seems boring and frustrating, can have a great effect on our happiness, beyond its financial return.

The meaning of work is part of the meaning of life (what am I doing with my life?, what do I want to do with it?), but it has its own dimensions. By meaning of work we mean what each person interprets about what work means to them, about the role that work has in their life. Each person must “find” his or her meaning of work.
